About

Osheen Manukyan is an Armenian-American cellist based in Los Angeles. He attended the Juilliard School where he was a scholarship student of Timothy Eddy. Prior to his collegiate training, he studied with Richard Naill at the Colburn School.

A passionate orchestral musician, Manukyan has performed as principal cellist under the batons of conductors such as Marin Alsop, Stéphane Denève, and JoAnn Falletta.

Manukyan has appeared at festivals across the country such the Music Academy of the West in California, the Sarasota Festival in Florida, and the Aspen Festival in Colorado, where he was a fellowship recipient. He was the winner of the Colburn Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2017 and appeared on NPR’s From the Top at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

On top of his activities as a performer, Manukyan serves as the Artistic Director of Kontrapunktus Baroque in Los Angeles, and is a dedicated teacher.

Music

Since the 17th century and until today, composers have recognized the beauty and versatility of the cello. As a result, cellists are blessed with an incredibly rich repertoire.

Smaller spaces are perfect for showcasing works for unaccompanied cello, works for cello and piano, and chamber music for various combinations of instruments.

As a classically trained cellist, I regularly play music by musical giants such as:

Antonio Vivaldi
Johann Sebastian Bach
Franz Joseph Haydn
Luigi Boccherini
Ludwig van Beethoven
Franz Schubert
Felix Mendelssohn
Robert Schumann
Johannes Brahms
Antonín Dvořák
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Camille Saint-Saëns
Gabriel Fauré
Claude Debussy
Maurice Ravel
Sergei Rachmaninoff
Sergei Prokofiev
Igor Stravinsky
Dmitri Shostakovich
(and many more!)
