Pianist and composer Monica Chew presents a wide-ranging and accessible program of solo piano music that transcends geographical and stylistic boundaries. Highlights include Fred Onovwerosuoke’s Studies in African Rhythms, a vibrant exploration of polyrhythms. Also featured is Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s unfinished Piano Sonata, a farewell to her brother after her marriage, and Mamoru Fujieda’s serene and profound Patterns of Plants, which derive from electrical impulses emitted by plants themselves. The program also includes Monica Chew’s new piece Tether, an homage to third spaces as a vital part of building community. This recital promises an engaging and enlightening experience for all audiences.
