We are so thrilled to welcome Luis McDougal, a jazz guitarist, and his musical partner Mimi Berkova, a vocal artist immersed in Jazz & Bossa Nova Standards as well as the folkloric music of her homeland Bulgaria. Together they incorporate improvisation with international music traditions from North and South America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe. With each performance they aim to connect with audiences by exploring creative music potentials, adding a sensuous touch to our arrangements.
Doors open at 3:30 and there will be a 10 minute kid-friendly segment at the start of the show at 4:00. Following this segment, kids younger than 8 will be asked to move to a different apartment with a babysitter for the remainder of the performance.
What's the music?
Hello! We are Mimi Berkova and Luis McDougal, a duo project which explores jazz repertoire along with music from the Caribbean, South America, and Eastern Europe with our sensuous touch. We also perform original music that is largely informed by these influences, and integrates them into the 21st century.
Where does this music come from?
We play music from the Great American Songbook, along with songs from Brazil, Argentina, and ancient songs from Bulgaria. Everything we do involves improvisation, a practice rooted in centuries of music-making and responsible for evolving the music itself.
