About
Hi! I’m Phoebe Wu, a violinist and interdisciplinary artist studying Economics and Music at UC Berkeley. I’ve served as concertmaster of the California Orchestra Institute, and performed solo with the UC Berkeley Symphony, Taipei Philharmonic, and Arcadia Youth Orchestra. Outside of concert halls, I love curating musical experiences that feel like stories shared around a table. Recently, I pioneered a project that blends music, food, and writing into immersive sensory events. Whether it’s an intimate sonata evening or a room full of neighbors, I believe live music should feel both heartfelt and communal.
Music
My repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary, but I have a soft spot for the lush Romantic works that let the violin really sing. My favorite concerto I've played is Sibelius Violin concerto, and my favorite classical sonatas are Beethoven's Spring and Kreutzer Sonata. Some of my favorite romantic short pieces are Dvorak Romance in F minor, Amy Beach Romance, and Melodie by Tchaikovsky. I also love playing virtuosic pieces like Carmen Fantasy by Hubay and Wieniawski's Variations on an Original Theme. I have also been exploring works that bridge together Western Classical music and Chinese music traditions: Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, Sunshine Over Tashkurgan, etc.
